Billingsgate Workshop: Promoting UK Shellfish

What a fabulous time we had at our first media workshop, held at the Seafood School in Billingsgate Market! We informed and entertained food writers from the Telegraph, Guardian, BBC Good Food and The Field, plus several chef/media influencers.

We kicked off with presentations from Nicki on mussels, David on oysters, Robin Hancock from Wright Bros on his illustrious career in oyster farming/ selling/seafood restaurants, and Bobby Groves, Chiltern Firehouse, on his tour of UK oyster farms and subsequent book.

Bobby followed up with an oyster opening masterclass and CJ Jackson supervised a mussel cooker lesson, while Mike Warner spoke about the crab and lobster industry. Everyone enjoyed the fruits of their labours, along with a lobster salad prepared by CJ, and a glass or two of chilled wine. The feedback we received was tremendous and the enthusiastic engagement from attendees was more than we could have hoped for!

Several of them have already been in touch to check facts and quotes and it will be really interesting to see their output in the future. the next workshop will be.
