As we approach the end of another year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible resilience and dedication shown by everyone in our industry. This year has, yet again, brought its fair share of challenges, from shifting market demands and regulatory pressures, import and export problems, welfare issues, negativity in the media and access to labour, to the ongoing effects of climate change and wider global economic uncertainties. Yet, in the face of these obstacles, members’ hard work and commitment to the shellfish trade have been nothing short of inspiring.
Our shared passion for this vital industry has been a source of strength. Together, we’ve made progress on key initiatives, commenced another promotion campaign and water quality projects, advocated for our collective supply chain interests, and most importantly, you have delivered world-class shellfish to markets near and far.
Despite the hurdles, we remain a resilient, thriving and exciting industry.
During the festivities, I hope you’ll find time to rest and recharge with loved ones. Christmas is a time for reflection and gratitude, and I am truly thankful for the support of all members. Your efforts contribute not only to the success of our industry, but also to the livelihoods of countless people and the sustainability of our precious marine resources.
Looking ahead, 2025 will bring fresh opportunities and, no doubt, new challenges. But I am confident that by continuing to work together, we can achieve even greater success. I look forward to collaborating with you in the coming year to strengthen and grow our sector further.
I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and a prosperous, healthy, New Year. Here’s to a brighter future for us all!
