I can hardly recall a time when our industry has not faced significant challenges. Whether these be the result of changing regulation, political upheaval, poor water quality, challenging market conditions, consumer sensitivity or wider issues such as the impacts of climate change, it seems that the shellfish sector so often finds itself in the eye of the storm. Clearly 2023 has been no different, and indeed, the pace of change, and the severity of the challenges, are ever increasing.

I believe that a vibrant SAGB is essential in helping to unlock these opportunities, and notwithstanding the challenges, I look forward to 2024 with some sense of optimism.
