The fourth workstream for the Action for Cleaner Waters SAGB project is about to start. During previous workstreams we learnt that when poor water quality is highlighted in the media, there is a direct financial impact on shellfish businesses via sales. See report here.
In an effort to avoid this in future, SAGB has brought in Julie Waites, who is a Seafood Industry Specialist with 27 years’ experience in the seafood sector. Julie will be involved in reputation management through social media channels on behalf of industry, in order to mitigate the effects of poor water quality on the public’s perception of shellfish quality.
Importantly, she will explain that the efforts undertaken by shellfish businesses ensure that poor water quality does not affect the quality of the product sold to the consumer. Julie Waites The project will also maintain and enhance current market opportunities for bivalve businesses and associated supply chains. We encourage businesses to contact Julie to interact in this part of the project, particularly where negative press is identified, and to help highlight aquaculture business operations.
